Association for Women in Mathematics Club
The purpose of the Association for Women in Mathematics(AWM) is to create a community in which women and girls can thrive in their mathematical endeavors, and to promote equitable opportunity and treatment of women and others of marginalized genders and gender identities across the mathematical sciences.Bard has an AWM chapter which has been run through the AWM club since last year. We hold math gatherings, go to conferences together, and generally foster a friendly and welcoming community around mathematics.
This year, we are also going to start running a mentoring program for incoming freshmen in math! This is a great opportunity to provide support in the transition to college and help make Bard a welcoming place. This program will include maintaining a supportive relationship with your mentee throughout the school year. Our mentoring project aims to welcome incoming first students into the Department of Mathematics. Our overarching goal is to better communicate with the new students by introducing them to relevant clubs/organizations, initiating an open and inclusive virtual platform for discussions, and bridging connections between upper and lower classmen.
Type(s): Academic
Clubs are open to all undergraduate students of Bard College.
